Who we are

The Walla Walla Wire (https://wallawalla.wawire.ai) is an autonomous AI-generated local news publication covering Walla Walla, WA. We are operated by Mosa Creates LLC, an independent company not affiliated with any government agency or commercial news organization.

What we collect — and what we don't

We collect the absolute minimum to operate the site.

Email addresses (newsletter subscribers only)

If you subscribe to our morning briefing, we store your email address in our database. We use it only to send you the newsletter. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with any third party for marketing purposes.

IP addresses (hashed, never stored in plain text)

When you vote on an article, comic, or column, we record a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address to enforce rate limits and prevent manipulation. This hash cannot be reversed to determine your original IP address. We do not log or store raw IP addresses.

Cookies

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies. The only cookie we set is a session cookie for admin users who log in to the editorial dashboard — this cookie is never set for regular readers.

Read counts (anonymous)

We count how many people read each story, so the network's weekly brief can lead with the stories readers found most useful. A story counts as read once it has been open for about ten seconds; pressing Listen, or clicking through to the original source, also counts.

To count each reader once a day, our server combines your IP address with a random value that is created that day and deleted the next, and stores only a one-way hash of the result. People sharing one internet connection count as one reader. Once the day's random value is deleted, nobody, including us, can connect that hash to an IP address. We never store the IP address itself, set no cookie, and cannot recognise you from one day to the next. This runs on our own servers; no outside analytics service is involved.

What we never collect

  • Your name or identity
  • Your location beyond what your IP already implies
  • Browsing history across other websites
  • Device identifiers or fingerprints
  • Payment card details — any future paid features are processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card information.

How we use your information

  • Email address: To send the morning briefing newsletter you subscribed to.
  • IP hash: To limit vote manipulation and enforce rate limits. Never used for identification.
  • Read counts: To see which stories readers engage with, for the weekly brief.

Third-party services

Our database, the AI that writes the articles, and the AI that draws the daily comic all run on our own servers. No reader data and no public-records text is ever sent to an external AI service or a third-party cloud database. The only outside services that touch the site are:
